Look Alikes!

Little Miss Princess had a special day at school today.  In honor of March being "Reading Month", her school declared it "Dress like your favorite book character" day, so she didn't have too much trouble picking her favorite character! I dug into the stash, and found some white bleached muslin, and used Simplicity 3668.
It was already cut to a size 4 (earlier version, made a dress), which was a smidge too tight, but once I picked out the the front pleats, she had enough room to move.  I used some fabric paints to put the blue design around the neck opening, and a few strips of tan cotton were braided together to make the belt.  Add a flat iron to the hair with a side-braid, and voila... Julie in the flesh!
Her friends all asked where her mom bought Julie's shirt, and LMP proudly told them, "My mom made it!"  So, if you have a little "American Girl" in your life with a Julie doll, this is the perfect pattern to recreate her look.  Too bad it's out of print, but I did see it available on ebay.

Here's the earlier version of Simplicity 3668, a Christmas dress from 2008.

Darling tunic and a great match with the AG! So good to have you posting again. I know Februaries in the North can be conducive to just sitting like a blob on the couch, at least for me. Now that the end of March is looming I just know we will see lots of great warmer weather garments from you. Welcome back!!!

So sweet Kristine! When Sara was in grade school they had a similar activity. Sara was AG Samantha and I made her the pink and white striped dress with a floral headpiece. I have a darling picture of her in her dress with Samantha. American Girl dolls were way out of our budget back then, but I'm so glad we were able to get her one. Sara so loved the books and dolls!

Great job! And on short notice, it seems!

I've just cut out outfits for the AG dolls that match the dresses that I've made my grands. You did a great job matching that tunic. It would be harder to match the real girl's clothing to the dolls.

This is so adorable! Lu packed away all of her AG dolls in the fall. Sob!!! At least she didn't put them in a box though. She took them to "Mema's" and they are lined up on "her" bed there (there are 6 grandkids but Lu insists this is HER room!) Her Barbie house that Papa built is in that room too. A memento to her childhood. Sniff.
