Daddy-Daughter Dance 2010

Little Miss Princess is wearing Butterick 3714 in "Barbie Pink", and the jacket is Simplicity 2683 (bamboo knit).  The pink is from Joann's, which makes it machine washable (priceless for a 6 yr old!).  I found a tutorial online for the flower embellishment, and I'm so glad I made the jacket, since it's 30 degrees outside today (1st day of Spring, yeah right...)
Daddy is wearing Simplicity 7030, in black Ralph Lauren shirting (from Ressy's co-op).  It's the umpteenth time I've made it, but he loves having shirts that fit correctly.  I was supposed to make him a matching tie, but there was no time.  I started the shirt last night and finished it this afternoon! (I know you can't see it, but isn't this a great picture?)
When I saw that belting, my mouth opened before my brain could stop it.  "Check this out! It reminds me of Hannah Montana!"  Those were really the only 2 words she heard, and immediately clasped her hands in front of her and assumed the begging position.  "Please. Please. Please. Please. Pretty Please. It will look so awesome, Mom.  Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssssse?"
Oh, and she also wanted her hair to look like Taylor Swift.  OMG.  If she's 6 and like this now, what do I have to look forward to???
Here's last year's dress.  Still my all-time favorite!

So, that's 3 things I made in this post.  None of them for me.  Neither was my last post.  I think I'm overdue for a little "Selfish Sewing Time"!  And there is a fun new blog/sew along called Friday Night Sew-In and it's hosted by Handmade by Heidi.  I usually find myself inside and sewing on a Friday night, so why not?  Last night I was able to get DH's shirt all cut out and the front/back/button/yoke parts assembled by 11pm.  Not bad for a Friday night!

She looks fantastic!! And it is great that you make shirts for your husband. I make them for Jeremy, too, because he likes them to be big across the shoulders so they don't bind up on him when he is performing. (although I am in the process of making him one from a stretch shirting in the PROPER size. Don't tell him it's girl fabric!)

You are amazing! Getting that lovely little dress done was ultra-good sewing, but making hubby's shirt in a few hours too! Wow! Isn't it interesting that the last few days of winter, people were in shorts and tops down on their convertibles, and the first day of spring we're in our winter coats?

So CUTE! And I hear you on the 6-yer-old fashionista thing. TLo is like that. I dread what she'll be like when she's twelve (and going on 32).

I am very impressed that you make shirts for your husband. I haven't ever gotten that brave.

You did a great job! I love the color and the belt add a lot of sparks. Enjoy every moment of it, because before you know it she will be all grown-up.

She is ADORABLE! I love her sassy attitude!!! She looks like a born model... I can't believe you got all that done for the Friday Night Sew-In! I only managed to make 2 t-shirts, which I will post about later on today... The 1st day of spring around here was 70 degrees, sunny and miraculous! Too nice for staying inside and blogging...

The looks on your model's face should tell you exactly her feelings in this dress...lest anyone think clothes don't have an effect, they need to see these pictures.

For those who have not made your DH a shirt. I love my custom shirts! My only complaint is that I don't have enough of them. Everytime I wear one it must come up that my wife made it. Thank you for your time and effort!!

We did have a great time at the dance. I did not think it would be that difficult to keep up with a 6 y/o!
