Hmmm... What's Wrong With This Picture???

This is kinda wordy, sorry.  It's just the way I am sometimes...

A few years ago, I saw this pic of Kate Hudson and fell in love with that vest!  I cut out the pic, stuck it on my sewing bulletin board, and never got around to making it.  Yeah.  Big surprise, right?
Then, the April 2010 Burda had the same pic for their end section on vests, and I said, "Hey! I saw it first!!!"  Of course, Burda didn't include a vest with a round overlap like Kate's, but it reminded me how much I loved it, and decided to finally make it.  If you want info on the real vest she actually wore, click here.

When I ordered the prom dress fabric, I was just $2 away from free shipping, so I ordered a yard and a half of white poplin for the vest. (Tired of reading yet?  Again, my apologies...)  It arrived this week, but I just got around to opening the package and what did I find?  Not white poplin, I'll tell you that!

Purple.  Poly.  Lining.
Huh???  It even has a sticker label stuck to it that says "White Poplin"!  Again, I ask... "Huh???"

I've emailed fabric.com, and I'm sure that it will get resolved.  It just cracked me up, and I knew that you would also appreciate it.  Today I will be working on the prom dress, and we'll be fitting the corset again tomorrow morning.  Surprisingly enough, the dress is the easy part!  I'll be updating again tonight or tomorrow, hope you have a productive (and mistake free) sewing day!

Closing Shot:  Little Miss Princess has a wonderful 1st grade teacher that rewards the kids every Friday for good behavior.  They get to pick a prize from a treasure chest, and she usually comes home with a plastic ring or necklace, or toy of some type.  Yesterday, she ran off the bus and said, "Wait 'til you see what I picked for a prize!!"  She dug through her bag, and produced this box.  "Can we open it, Mom?  It's a sewing kit!"

Sure enough.  A sewing kit... from the Ritz Carlton (!?).  How this ended up in the prize basket, I'll never know.  That my daughter saw it as a "prize" makes me smile, though!

Man, when fabric.com gets it wrong - do they ever! I once got a piece of home dec weight cotton printed with giant green leaves that was labelled Electric Blue rayon jersey. Um, did anyone actually read that label??? They were quick to send me the correct fabric and now that weird green leafy stuff is hanging out in my stash.

What a smart teacher to get freebie gifts from stays at hotels!!! I love having a little sewing kit with me. You never know when you are going to lose a button or rip out a hem. I sewed lots of kids' and teachers' clothes back together when I was still teaching. The Ritz Carlton on a teacher's salary!!! Wow!!! We stayed at one for my niece's wedding weekend in DC, but that's a one time thing for us!!

fabric.com will take care of it. Awhile back they sent me the wrong fabric. When they tried to correct it they sent the wrong fabric again. I called them back and they apologized and figured out it has just been placed in the wrong shelf in the warehouse. They told me to keep the fabric for free that I was sent incorrectly. I ended up using it for a muslin. They have great customer service. I do love that vest.

I am sure Fabric.com will fix it, but that is frustrating when it happens, isn't it? When I saw your title "What Is Wrong With This Picture" my first response was "The fit of that vest!! Look at the bustline!" I have one of those little sewing kits in my desk drawer, it came from the Shangri La hotel in Shanghai!

Ha! I had that same problem once from fabric.com. They quickly replaced it... with the same WRONG fabric! Third time, they got it right. :-) I still order from them, though. I think they're really good. That was the exception.

Hmmm, well there are lots of wrong things regarding the celeb picture. Let's just say that vest doesn't fit and move on.

Yeah, I'm thinking that's not white poplin, either. I'm pretty sure Fabric.com will fix that, but I'm sure you were looking forward to that fabric!

How cute that she picked out a sewing kit - she knows what the real treasure are, doesn't she?

Your little princess proved an important point: Children learn from what we do, not what we say. She obviously knows how important sewing is to you and sees the sewing kit as a "prize". (Either that or she's stayed at a Ritz Carlton!)

So funny! By the way, thanks for the offer of baby girl patterns. I have actually bought myself a few here and there over the years to quiet the longing of my heart to sew for a little girl. Now I just have to wait until she gets here so I can figure out sizing. Some of the dresses look really long!

Yeah, I don't think that is white poplin. ;)

How great that your daughter picked a sewing kit as her prize. So mom, when are you going to start giving her sewing lessons? Me thinks she is gearing up to follow in your footsteps. :)
