Resolution #1: CHECK!!!

Happy New Year, everyone! 2012 is off to a rip-roaring start, look what I did this morning!

My first 5k! It was cold, but the rain stopped just as the race started, and the sun even came out! DH stayed by my side throughout (which kept me moving when I'd really rather slow down), and even said, "Ladies first!" at the finish line. Who said chivalry is dead? I didn't finish first, but I didn't finish last... Which is all you can hope for the first time out. 36 minutes was my finishing time (which is my normal pace on the treadmill), with just 3 brief walking intervals needed.

Here we are at the finish line:

There were over 100 other runners out there with us, and it was a really fun way to set the tone for 2012. I NEVER thought I'd EVER say this, but... I like running. Not the during, but definitely the sense of accomplishment after. I would like to participate in another 5k soon, as there is nothing like having a date on the calendar (and someone else reminding you of said upcoming date), to keep you training and motivated.

I hope we are all able to make our dreams and goals a reality this year! Good luck and stay focused!

Congratulations! I don't think I could run for a bus these days so I think a 5K would actually kill me :)

Yea you! I did the Resolution Run in Seattle today too. But I walked - we finished in 46.27 and are signed up for the Valentine's Day walk. Goal is 12 in 2012!!

Can't wait to see how your progress. g

Congratulations to you, and thanks for the motivation! I had the flu for 3 weeks in December, so it felt like I lost momentum. I went back to the gym on December 26, and I thought I'd keel over!! But I was doing alright by January 1, too.
Yay! It's hard work, but I relate to your feelings of accomplishment. (I don't run, I go to a gym and take group classes for cardio, strength and yoga style exercise)

WTG, Congratulations!!! I am a runner as well. Its very addicting. I didn't take up running till I was 43, now only a couple days from 47 I am still at it! Its as good for a person mentally as it is physically for sure!!

Congratulations on completing your first 5K!!! It is the best feeling to finish. My daughter and I did a turkey trot 5k on the treadmills at the club we attend. We even made paper turkey drumsticks to wear on our tee shirts!!!
Keep working out! Every step is a benefit for your body.

Well done you - very inspirational, I use to run every day then just fell out of the habit, perhaps now I'll dig my trainers out!

Great job!! If you're looking for running motivation, I highly recommend joining dailymile.com (it's free - I'm squirrellypoo on there). I find it really inspiring to hear about other people's training, and also see how many "donuts" I've burned!

I ran my first 5K back in 2007, and believe it or not, I signed up for my first half marathon(!!) in early March. Back then, I couldn't conceieve of running anywhere near that long, let alone for fun, but it's amazing how running gets its grips into you. :)

Sign up for another race while you're still on that high! It makes it easier to keep going out there on cold mornings when you've got something to train for!

Congrats! I started running this year too and am surprised by how much I like it. I had every intention of running a 5K but it never panned out.
